What This Bottom Box Stapler Is Used For
- Stapling the bottom flaps of shipping cartons
- Packing lines that close a steady number of boxes each day
- Cold storage and produce packing, where tape may fail
- Heavy loads that need a stronger bottom than tape can give
Choosing the Right Staples
The F84-114 uses Bostitch 1-1/4" crown C staples with a 5/8" or 3/4" leg. Use the 5/8" leg for single-wall cartons and the 3/4" leg for thicker board. Bostitch says to use only its own staples in this tool. Add a few boxes to your order:
Need a wider crown? The Bostitch F84-138 takes 1-3/8" crown staples with 5/8" to 7/8" legs.
How to Load and Use the F84-114
- Pull the pusher back and slide up to four sticks of staples into the back of the magazine.
- Let the pusher slide forward against the staples.
- Fold the carton's bottom flaps and set the seam over the anvil.
- Press the step board down with your foot until it stops, then release.
- Slide the box along and repeat until the seam is closed.
Care, Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Keep the machine clean and oil every shaft before you start each day. Never press the step board without a carton in place.
- Clinch too short: the leg is too short for the board. Move up to the next longer leg.
- Crown collapses: the leg is too long. Move down to the next shorter leg.
- Clearing a jam: pull back the pusher, remove the staples and clear the stuck staple from the drive area before reloading.
Manual Box Stapler or Pneumatic?
A Bostitch carton stapler like the F84-114 needs no compressor, makes little noise and suits low to medium volume packing. If you close hundreds of boxes an hour, a pneumatic bottom stapler may be the better fit. Review our full line of carton staplers or call us and we'll help you choose.
