What It's Used For
The Rapid 28 is built for installers who run low-voltage cable along walls, baseboards and framing: phone lines, network cable, speaker wire and similar cable. The rounded staple holds the cable without flattening it.
Cable Staple Gun vs. a Regular Staple Gun
A regular staple gun uses flat crown staples that can cut into round cable. A cable staple gun like the R28 uses a rounded crown that fits over the cable. If you need a general tacker for paper, fabric or insulation, review the Rapid R23 instead.
Choosing Rapid 28 Staples
The R28 takes Rapid No. 28 staples only. Pick 9, 10 or 11 mm to suit your cable and surface. Galvanized and white versions are made. Call us to add Rapid 28 staples to your order.
How to Load and Use
- Lock the handle closed and load a strip of No. 28 staples through the bottom of the tool.
- Set the force adjuster for your cable and surface.
- Place the cable in the guide at the nose, centered under the staple.
- Squeeze the trigger. Check that the staple holds the cable without pinching it.
Care and Clearing a Jam
Lock the handle, open the magazine and pull out the bent staple. Review the staple box and use only No. 28 staples; other staples cause most jams. Keep the nose clean.
Tips for Neat Cable Runs
Space staples evenly, about every 12 to 18 inches on straight runs and closer at corners. Don't drive the staple so hard that it pinches the cable; the 3-step force adjuster helps you set this. Run a test on scrap with the same cable before you start on a finished wall.
Who Uses the Rapid R28?
Network and phone installers, AV and security installers, and electricians running low-voltage lines use this tool. Its steel build holds up to daily use on the job. Add a few boxes of staples to your order so you don't run short on site.
